Built in 1850, the William Heath Davis Historic House Museum is the oldest surviving wooden structure in San Diego and is awash with local history. Home to men like Alonzo Horton, founder of the city, and William Heath Davis, who first attempted to bring the town into being, the historic residence was brought by ship around Cape Horn and has served as military barracks for pre-Civil War officers and the county's hospital. Now turned into a regional history museum, various rooms in the home have been tailored to speak to one of the residence's many uses, providing a fascinating look into San Diego history as a whole. The house is part of the historic Gaslamp Quarter, just blocks from PETCO Park.
