Valiantly attempting to cover the full history of photography, the Museum of Photographic Arts tracks the varied styles and functions which photography has traveled through. Its permanent collection includes some 7,000 images, dating back to the 1800s, and its temporary exhibits speak to topics of photographic interest throughout the world. It is located inside Balboa Park, near the Timken Museum of Art and the San Diego Museum of Art as well as the park's many other museums, theaters and activity centers.
