One of the largest and most famous zoos in the world, the San Diego Zoo showcases more than 800 different animal species, and more than 4,000 animals in total. Its diverse exhibit areas bring visitors to a whole world of environments, from the jungle within Monkey Trails to the icy climes of the Polar Bear Plunge to the arid East African Kopje. In addition to wandering around the sprawling complex, visitors can opt to take a guided bus tour, ride the zoo's miniature train or see the zoo from high above on the Skyfari aerial tram. The zoo is one of the attractions of Balboa Park; it is located on the northern end of the sprawling urban cultural center.
Open daily Sep - late Jun: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; late Jun - Aug: 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
General admission: Adults $24.50; Children (3-11) $16.50. Special ride and activity prices vary, check website for details.
